Hi, my name is Rudolph.
You all know that I have a very shiny nose, so let me tell you how I became
the lead reindeer on Christmas Eve.
Long before I was born, Santa used to mount large spotlights on Dancer’s
and Prancer’s heads because they were always the front reindeer. The
spotlights were extremely heavy and uncomfortable for Dancer and Prancer.
I was born years ago on a cold winter’s evening. I remember taking my first
steps in the barn. My Mom and Dad where there to root for me. They were so
proud.
When I was about four years old I noticed my nose would very slowly become
bright red. I did not know what to do, so I would wrap it in a black cloth. One
evening my friends and I were playing outside when the cloth fell off and my
nose began to glow a bright red. It lit up the sky. I was so embarrassed and
I did not know what to do. The other reindeer laughed and called me names.
So I did not play with them for a long time.
Somehow, Santa heard about the little reindeer with the bright red nose and
how embarrassed he was to have it. So, one day Santa walked over to my
house to cheer me up. When we met for the first time, he was amazed at
how bright my nose really was. Santa had an idea! He asked me, Rudolph
with your nose so bright, won’t you guide my sleigh tonight?
Needless to say I was overjoyed. I was going to lead the reindeer on
Christmas Eve. So I was hooked up that night and flew off with all the
other reindeer. The other reindeer learned to love me and accepted me
even though I was a little different. Especially Dancer and Prancer
because they did not have to wear those large heavy spotlights any
more!
I hope you enjoyed my story and I will see all of you on Christmas Eve.
P.S.: I love carrots if anyone would like to leave some for me on the roof!
Merry Christmas,
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
